The pilot killed in a small plane crash in Hennepin County on Saturday has been identified as the co-owner of a Minneapolis garden center.

Wagners Greenhouses and Garden Center, based at 6024 Penn Ave. S., says that its longtime owner Scott Wagner died in the crash at Crow Hassan Park, near St. Michael, on Saturday.

His small aircraft came down around 11 minutes after taking off at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie.

"It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Scott Wagner, co-owner and operator of Wagners Greenhouses on Saturday, February 22," the garden center wrote.

"We extend our deepest condolences at this time to Scott’s wife Susan and his two children Nolin and Eric. We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers."

Wagners Garden Centers has been owned by the Wagner family since 1901, with the fifth generation of family members actively involved in its operation.
