Pilot, nurse killed in North Memorial helicopter crash in Brainerd
A pilot and a nurse have been killed in an air ambulance crash at an airport in Brainerd early Friday morning.
The crash happened around 1 a.m., according to a statement from North Memorial, with three North Memorial Health crew members on board at the time.
Two crew members, a pilot and a nurse, were confirmed to have died at the scene, while the third was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been informed and are investigating.
"The FAA and NTSB have been notified, and we will fully cooperate with both agencies during their investigation of the incident," a North Memorial spokeswoman said.
"North Memorial Health is grateful for the expertise and efforts of the first responders who came to the accident scene including the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Brainerd Police and Fire Departments and Baxter Police Department."
Brainerd is listed as one of 7 outstate bases for North Memorial Air Care, which has its main base in Robbinsdale.
