The owner of more than 130 animals seized from a Pine County farm after allegations of abuse is trying to regain custody of more than 20 dogs.

FOX 9 reports on Thursday, an attorney for the 65-year-old Pine City woman, who has not yet been charged, visited the Guardian Angel Shelter where the dogs are being treated.

A month-long investigation by the Pine County Sheriff’s Office lead to the seizure of 12 horses, 21 dogs, 18 ducks and 84 chickens found living in poor conditions earlier this month.

The horses were described as “starving” and two had to be put down a day after authorities removed the animals. Investigators also found “filthy pens and makeshift enclosures."

The owner has yet to file the necessary paperwork to challenge the seizure, FOX 9 reports. After Oct. 4, the dogs can be placed in foster care or put up for adoption.

The woman has a history of animal abuse. According to online court records, she was convicted of four counts of animal cruelty in 2004 case after nearly 80 other animal abuse-related charges were dismissed.
