An unknown person shot a pit bull at an apartment complex in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota on Sunday.

Sauk Rapids police say it received a call at 6:55 p.m. Sunday on the report of a dog being shot at 1361 13th Street Circle. The 2-year-old pit bull survived but was seriously injured by the bullet striking it in the shoulder.

"The dog had gotten out of the owner’s apartment and was shot by an unknown person, who afterwards apparently left the building," Sauk Rapids Chief of Police Perry Beise said.

The pit bull, named Rocko, belongs to Shannon Bueckers and her daughter. A relative started a fundraiser via GoFundMe to help pay for the emergency surgery and veterinary bills, which are more than $7,000.

Rocko lost a leg in the shooting and is now learning to get by on three legs.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Sauk Rapids police at 320-258-5841.
