Plaid to meet you: Target announces new designer collaboration, tartan takeover

Fresh off the success (or a feeding frenzy, some might say) of its partnership with summer-wear designer Lilly Pulitzer, Target is looking to fall – and banking on plaid – with yet another fashion collaboration.

The Minneapolis-based retailer has announced it's teaming with designer Adam Lippes, who will create a line of buffalo plaid-themed autumn apparel for the Bullseye, according to a news release.

And it's not just clothes that will bear a tartan pattern – Target says the classic look will splash over into other departments, with Diet Coke bottles, ChapStick tubes and even Band-Aids (among many others) covered in plaid.

There will be at least 50 items in the collection.

Fashionista reports that Lippes, a celebrated young designer whose works are known for their "appealingly understated luxury," also had a hand in creating the collection's plaid pet goods and home furnishings – areas "entirely new to him."

The site says the apparel will be priced in the $20-$130 range, while shoes and accessories will run $40 to $50.

The designer collaborations have been a boon for Target, who recently gave partial credit to the Lilly Pulitzer line and other fashion offerings for an eye-popping comeback in the first quarter.

Target says its "plaid takeover" will begin in August and continue through October.
