Plane crash lands in field at Superior airport
Two people survived after the plane they were in crash landed at a small airport in Superior, Wisconsin.
WDIO reports the small craft came down in an open field around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, in the western portion of the Bong Memorial Airport.
The pilot and passenger were the only two people onboard, FOX 21 reports. Neither were injured.
According to Northland's NewsCenter, the pilot reported some technical issues and could not maneuver the plane to the airport's runway, so opted to crash land in the open field.
The Duluth News Tribune says the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
Plane crash in western Minnesota
The Superior crash landing comes after a similar incident in western Minnesota Monday.
The Pope County Sheriff's Office says the pilot of a small plane reported engine problems and attempted to land on the south side of Lake Minnewaska (near Starbuck and Glenwood). But the aircraft quickly lost altitude, and it came down hard in the water.
The crash landing damaged one of the plane's floats, causing the plane to sink into 10-14 feet of water.
The two people on board were able to exit the plane prior to it became submerged.
The plane was piloted by 53-year-old Skipper Cook of Eden Prairie. Arturo Gomez, 38, was the passenger.
Only one of them suffered minor injuries, and neither were taken to the hospital.
