A small plane has crashed in northwestern Hennepin County, killing the pilot.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that a plane crashed in an area of the Crow Hassan Park Reserve at around 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

Responders arrived at the scene in a "remote area" of the reserve to find the single-engine plane, with the pilot dead inside.

"Our deepest sympathy goes to the friends and family of the deceased," Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said, “we will continue to work with federal and local investigators to gather additional information.”

The aircraft is believed to have crashed around 11 minutes after departing Princeton, Minnesota.

The Crow Hassan Park Reserve is located just southeast of St. Michael.
