On Friday morning, Hmong International Academy woke to the news that someone had burned down its playground.

The Minneapolis Pre K-8 school, which works to "promote academic growth and achievement" for Hmong children, shared the news later that day that the fire "destroyed our school playground and damaged windows surrounding the playground":

The letter, written by school principal Jamil Payton, also says the playground likely won't be rebuilt and ready for use "near the end of September or early October."

Payton adds that investigators are "working to identify who did this."

The Minneapolis Police Department has not yet issued any statements regarding the arson.

Hmong International Academy is located on the 1500 block of N 30th Ave. in north Minneapolis.
