Plymouth police: Man grabs 7-year-old girl, tries to run off with her in attempted child abduction
A 7-year-old girl was grabbed and briefly carried away by a man in what Plymouth police are describing as an attempted child abduction.
The incident happened around 11:09 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, at the 16000 block of 41st Avenue, the Plymouth Police Department said Thursday.
The suspect — described by witnesses as a white male in his 20s — picked up the child, then ran a short distance with her before letting her go. He then fled on foot.
Police are still searching for the suspect, with the department saying it is continuing to follow leads.
They say the suspect is between 5' 10" and 6' tall, with a medium-to-slender build. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a black sweatshirt or hoodie and dark pants at the time.

The police department notes it has taken "time and resources" to not just identify witnesses that could provide a physical description and information about the incident, but also to determine that this was indeed an attempted child abduction. Thursday's release was for the "sake of public awareness," they said.
Anyone who may have seen it happen is encouraged to contact Sgt. Jeff Dorfsman at 763-509-5669. Police aren't releasing any more information right now.
