Polar bear, seals may not return to Lake Superior Zoo following flash flood

Zoological Society CEO Sam Madia told the Duluth News Tribune the zoo will likely reopen sometime after Wednesday, although it's unknown if the zoo's polar bear and two seals will return from the Como Zoo in St. Paul. Madia acknowledged the Zoological Society's 2010 long-range plan doesn't include the popular Polar Shores exhibit. The zoo's senior staff is expected to re-evaluate their options and make a decision as soon as possible.
