A Minnesota company has breathed new life into America's oldest motorcycle brand.

Polaris Industries unveiled three new models of Indian Motorcycles in front of thousands of bikers at the annual rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, over the weekend.

Polaris CEO Scott Wine tells Forbes the company spent nearly $100 million developing the Indian Chief Classic, the Indian Chief Vintage, and the Indian Chieftan.

The new models are the latest attempt to revive a brand whose first motorcycles hit the road in 1901. Previous efforts have struggled with how to adapt Indian's distinctive old-time style in a modern bike. But a New York Times blogger says Polaris has managed to walk the fine styling line between character and caricature.

For Medina-based Polaris, which is best known for its snowmobiles and ATVs, the new generation of Indians represents a challenge to motorcycle kingpin Harley-Davidson.

Motorcycle USA heralded the weekend unveiling ceremony as "an inflection point in motorcycling history."

As Cycle News reports, the new models range in price from $19,000 to $23,000. They're available for order now and will arrive at dealerships next month.
