An arrest has been made after a vicious assault left a 75-year-old man gravely injured.
Minneapolis Police Department issued a release saying the assault happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, on the 2900 block of Chicago Ave. in Minneapolis.
Officers from MPD And Metro Transit responded to the report of a serious assault, arriving at the scene where they found a 75-year-old man whose injuries were "grave." The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where his current condition is unknown.
Investigators learned that a verbal exchange on a Metro Transit bus escalated once the victim got off the bus. Police say the man was followed off the bus by three others, leading to an altercation between the victim and a suspect believed to be in his 20s.
The suspect is accused of striking the 75-year-old, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head.
The 23-year-old suspect was arrested Thursday by the Minneapolis Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, with the assistance of SWAT. He was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center for probable cause aggravated assault.
Formal charges have not yet been filed against him.
Police anticipate additional arrests and the case remains under active investigation.
