Police: 3 fatal overdoses in just over 3 hours in St. Paul

There have been 30 overdose deaths in St. Paul so far this year.

In a span of just over three hours Monday night into Tuesday morning, three people in St. Paul fatally overdosed.

Saint Paul Police Department issued a release saying "last night was a tough one" as officers and paramedics were called to three overdoses, with all three people dying.

– The first incident was reported at 10:09 p.m. on the 1700 block of Carroll Ave., where a 39-year-old man died of a suspected overdose. Medics attempted to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

– At 12:01 a.m., police were called to the 1500 block of Marion St. where they found a 27-year-old man suffering from an overdose. He died at the scene.

– At 1:23 a.m., officers arrived at an apartment on the 400 block of Pierce St. where a 34-year-old woman died.

The trio of deaths brings the city's fatal overdose count in 2021 to 30, which is on pace to surpass last year's total of 82, which itself represented a 78% increase from 2019.

"We're working hard to reverse this troubling trend," St. Paul PD said, noting that non-fatal overdoses are also on the rise.

"Your officers carry Narcan and have used it frequently to save lives. Our Community Outreach and Stabilization (COAST) Unit follows up with survivors to offer assistance and attempt to connect people with recovery resources. Whenever possible, we try to get people the services they need," St. Paul PD added.

If you or anyone you know is battling addition, resources for help are available 24/7, 365 days a year. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is always available – and confidential – at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
