Police in northern Minnesota are investigating an attempted abduction, in which a woman was grabbed by a man who approached her from behind.

The incident happened just after 10 a.m. Friday, with the female caller reporting she was accosted as she walked along the 16000 block of Birchwood Lane just north of Brainerd.

The man tried to grab her, but she was able to get away after hitting the suspect, who then fled on foot.

Deputies and officers in Brainerd searched the area but didn't locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, weighing about 200 pounds, with brown hair and stubbly facial hair, and wearing a dark blue jacket.

"Public safety is paramount and I want the community to be aware that we are actively investigating this case and any leads we obtain," Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard added. "I’m asking that anyone in the McKay Road area to please check your surveillance camera systems on March 20 between 9:00 am and 11:00 am to see if you may have footage of anyone matching the suspect’s description."
