Police alert after mugging attempts on U of M campus
What's happening?
Police say a University of Minnesota student and a woman were targeted by a robber in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The student says the juvenile suspect approached and grabbed her cellphone at 120:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a "timely warning" issued by the U on Monday.
When she tried to grab it back they got into a scuffle that left her with minor injuries.
The mugger also tried to grab the purse from a second woman at the scene, but had no success.
Apparently, the same suspect was involved in another mugging attempt a half hour earlier, around midnight on Sunday.
Where did it happen?
The attempts against the student and woman happened on the U of M campus at University Avenue SE and 15th Avenue SE.
The earlier attempt happened at 15th Avenue SE and 8th Street SE.
Description of the suspect
The suspect was described as a black, male juvenile, about 5'6" inches tall with a light build, and wearing dark clothing.
He arrived and departed in a black SUV (similar to a Jeep), which contained a number of other passengers.
