Police: Apple Valley man killed wife and daughter, then took his own life

Authorities are saying that a 29-year-old man killed his wife and 5-year-old daughter in their Apple Valley home before taking his own life.

The bodies of David Crowley, his wife Komel, 28, and his daughter Rani were found on Saturday after what police believe was a murder-suicide. The three may have lain dead for weeks before their discovery.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed that all three died from gunshot wounds to the head, but that it was treating the deaths of Komel and Rani Crowley as homicides, whereas David Crowley's death is being treated as a suicide.

Their bodies were found at their home in the 1000 block of Ramsdell Drive, WCCO reports, with neighbors saying they had not seen them since before Christmas and had assumed they were on a long holiday.

KARE 11 reports that David Crowley was a filmmaker who had recently written a film called "Gray State" – about the militarization of the United States – which he financed through a crowd-funding campaign that raised $60,000.

The Pioneer Press reports, though, that Crowley had expressed concerns recently about whether the film would ever be made after some of its original backers had abandoned the project.

Komel Crowley was a dietician who ran a business called Mind Body dietician, after studying at the University of Minnesota, the news station says.

Friends of the couple told the Pioneer Press they never saw any signs that David and Komel were having trouble in their marriage, and that their deaths were a complete shock.

Police are continuing their investigations into the deaths, with FOX 9 reporting that more details are expected to be released Thursday.
