Police ask for public's help in finding missing Winona State student

Chukwudi Benjamin Onyeaghala was last seen Friday night.

Officials continue to ask for the public's help in finding a missing 19-year-old Winona State University student.

Chukwudi Benjamin Onyeaghala – who goes by Ben – was seen on video walking east on Mark Street near the Winona State University Library at 9:51 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, the Winona Police Department says.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Onyeaghala was seen again just before midnight Friday near Sixth and Huff streets in Winona, about a half-mile from the library.

Onyeaghala, who is from White Bear Lake, was reported missing on Sunday, according to Winona State University, which wrote in a comment on Facebook Tuesday that "Our WSU community remains concerned about Ben."

Officials say he doesn't have a vehicle registered to him, and attempts to contact him on his phone and social media were unsuccessful.

“It’s very concerning because nobody has had any contact with him," Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack told ABC 6, noting his family says he doesn't have a history of just disappearing.

"We have no information at this point that leads us to believe that there’s anything truly suspicious or criminal in nature at this point, but we are not ruling anything out at this time," Bostrack told the news station.

Onyeaghala is described as being 5-foot-7 and weighing 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black jeans, black shoes and a black backpack, police say.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Winona Police Department at 507-457-6492 or call 911.
