After two weeks on the run, an inmate who escaped from a prison in western Wisconsin has been captured.

Dumholt was captured Saturday morning in Rice Lake, according to a news release from the Barron County Sheriff's Department.

The department said officers responded to a call Saturday at 6:46 a.m. of a suspicious male walking around a house south of Rice Lake on 19 1/2 Street.

The man told deputies his car had broken down nearby. A deputy recognized the man as Dumholt, and arrested him.

He was taken to the Barron County Jail and positively identified as Dumholt by his fingerprints, KSTP reports.

Authorities also believe Dumholt stole a car in Eau Claire and crashed it in Rice Lake, close to where he was arrested.

Dumholt was transported to the Sawyer County Jail where he is being held.

Authorities appealed for the public's help Saturday in locating Dumholt, saying they believed he was armed and dangerous.

Dumholt was sentenced to a prison term in May 2013, after pleading no contest to a vehicle theft and felony fleeing, the Jackson County Chronicle reports. He was also convicted of a hate crime substantial battery while in custody in Chippewa County, the newspaper reports.

He was moved from the medium-security Jackson Correctional Institute to the minimum-security Black River facility just days prior to his escape, the Chronicle reports.

Authorities believe Dumholt and another man are responsible for an Aug. 6 home invasion near Hayward in Sawyer County. They entered the home and confronted the homeowner at gunpoint, according to WCCO. The homeowner was not injured.

More information is expected Monday.
