Police: Confrontation sparks gunfire that kills 17-year-old in Minneapolis
Police are investigating a deadly shooting of a 17-year-old in Minneapolis.
According to Minneapolis PD, gunshots were reported at 2:25 a.m. in the area of the 3200 block of Aldrich Ave. N, prompting officers to search the area. While searching, 911 callers reported the sound of shots fired, in addition to a call to police from North Memorial Health Hospital about a teenager who had been transported to the emergency room.
The 17-year-old victim was in grave condition upon arrival to the hospital, with police reporting that the teenager died at the hospital later Sunday morning.
Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, homicide detectives began working the case before the boy died. Investigators believe that the teen was "engaged in a confrontation that escalated into a shooting," a release from MPD said.
The victim's identity has not been released and no arrests have been made.
