Police in Cottage Grove arrested a 38-year-old man early Wednesday morning after officials say he intentionally crashed his SUV into the house he was renting.

According to the police department, officers were called to the home in the 8100 block of Ideal Avenue shortly after 2 a.m.

They say the vehicle had crashed through the garage, went through the family room and smashed a sliding glass door on its way out the back.

The driver then crashed through a fence and drove back into the garage before fleeing the scene.

Police say they found the driver a short distance away, hiding underneath another vehicle, and arrested him on DWI charges as well as other offenses, according to KSTP.

The suspect had argued with his wife before the incident began, according to police. Charges against him are pending with the Washington County Attorney’s Office.

City officials condemned the house due to the extensive structural damage.
