A woman was found dead at what police are calling a "disturbing scene" in a St. Paul apartment overnight.

Saint Paul police officers responded to 911 calls reporting a domestic dispute just after midnight at an apartment on the 300 block of Pierce St. N., where a department release says they found "a disturbing scene – an unresponsive woman who was with a man and a young child."

The woman, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have yet to determine the nature and cause of her injuries.

Police secured the scene and took the man into custody while ensuring the child's safety.

The man was initially taken to a hospital for evaluation and then transferred to police headquarters to be interviewed. He is now in custody at the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.

The child, whose age and relationship with the adults hasn't been disclosed, was taken to a separate hospital for evaluation.

The St. Paul Police Department's Forensic Unit is processing the scene and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on the victim.
