A suspect is in jail after hitting a Rochester police officer with his car early Wednesday morning.

According to Rochester Police Department, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop around 2:10 a.m. on Eastgate Gate Dr. when the driver led police on an approximately five-mile pursuit before entering the parking lot of Valley High Flats near Kenosha Dr.

An officer was out of a squad vehicle trying to make contact with the motorist when the suspect, a 26-year-old from Rochester, sped towards the officer, causing the officer to be thrown onto the hood of the vehicle. The suspect then hit two squad vehicles, police said.

One officer fired a shot at the suspect but missed. The suspect ran into a nearby field where he was tased and taken into custody.

Rochester PD said the officer hit by the vehicle was taken to Mayo Clinic, where he was treated and released. The suspect was also taken to the hospital for unknown injuries.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation.
