Moorhead Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured a child on Sunday evening.

Police say the incident happened around 5:20 p.m. in the parking lot of Hornbachers Foods at 950 40th Ave. S., and a preliminary investigation leads police to believe that a group of people were sitting in a vehicle when a man approached and an altercation ensued.

At some point, the man fired a shot with a handgun into the vehicle, shattering a window and causing superficial injuries to a child inside the vehicle, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say the group of people in the vehicle know the suspect and that it was not a random encounter.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Red River Regional Dispatch at 701-451-7660 and asked for duty supervisor, Lt. Mike Detloff.
