St. Paul police confirmed Tuesday that the 21-year-old man involved in a motorcycle crash in St. Paul on Sunday has died.

The department announced that Tyrone Jackson Jr., of St. Paul, died Monday night at Regions Hospital. He was involved in a motorcycle versus car crash around 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Hazelwood Street in St. Paul.

Jackson was traveling at a high rate of speed, police said, and was thrown over the handlebars of his motorcycle and then into the street after colliding with Ford Taurus that was turning through the intersection.

Jackson was transported with Regions Hospital where he underwent surgery and was placed in intensive care in grave condition.

The driver of the 2004 Ford Taurus was a 26-year-old woman from St. Paul, who police suspected of driving while impaired. Blood tests will determine if she was indeed under the influence at the time of the crash and she could face charges.
