Police identify suspect in Allina Clinic shooting as 67-year-old Gregory Ulrich
Police have identified the suspect in the mass shooting at the Buffalo Crossroads Clinic as 67-year-old Gregory Ulrich.
Ulrich has been taken into custody following the incident Tuesday morning that saw several people injured at the Allina Health clinic, as well as the discovery of a suspected explosive device.
There were five victims requiring medical care, four of whom have been taken to North Memorial Hospital, and another to Hennepin County Medical Center. At this stage no information is available about the victims' conditions.
Buffalo Police Chief Pat Budke and Wright County Sheriff Sean Deringer said that Ulrich was "known" to local police, and was the subject of "several calls for service" dating back to 2003.
"No information that leads us to believe there's a nexus to domestic terrorism," Budke said. "We're very familiar with the suspect," Budke added, noting he has lived in the Buffalo area "for quite a long time."
However, Budke said that the "history we have with this individual, makes it most likely that this incident was targeted at that facility or at someone in that facility," noting that previous calls suggested he was "unhappy with healthcare."
Ulrich's criminal history includes drunk-driving charges in Wright County in 2004, 2005 and 2006, along with a citation for driving with an open bottle in Pine County in 2008.
He was convicted for DWI in both 2006 and 2007, sentenced in both instances to serve a year in jail followed by probation.
He also more recent citations for possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in August 2020, a similar citation in 2014, and a misdemeanor citation for violation of a harassment restraining order in November 2018.

Deringer said that police arrived to a "horrible scene" at the clinic, rendering aid to the victims and taking Ulrich into custody.
When it appeared there was a suspicious package in the corner of the lobby, law enforcement evacuated the scene and a bomb squad was called in.
Possible explosive devices have also been found at the nearby Super 8 Motel, where Ulrich was staying prior to the incident.
