Police investigate 'badly decomposed' body found in St. Croix River

Police are investigating after a body washed ashore on the St. Croix River Friday afternoon.

Cmdr. Jerry Cusick, of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, told KSTP that the body was found in Lakeland Shores at around 2:34 p.m.

The TV station notes that it washed up near a home in the 190 block of Lakeland Shores Road.

According to the Pioneer Press, it was "badly decomposed" and as yet has not been identified by authorities, though they do believe the remains are those of a man.

Investigators told the newspaper there has been no recent missing person cases in the area, and are continuing with their enquiries.

Lakeland Shores is a residential city with a population of 355, located on the banks of the St. Croix River, near to the Interstate 94 crossing into Wisconsin.
