The St. Paul Police Department is opening a hate crime investigation after a mural depicting George Floyd in St. Paul was vandalized.
Police say the mural, located at 2nd Shift Art Studio in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood, was defaced with racial slurs and red Xs painted over Floyd.
Police were reportedly notified of the incident Wednesday, and no arrests have been made.
This is not the first time the mural has been vandalized, according to 2nd Shift Art Studio. The studio also condemned the violence on its website.
"This condemnable and toxic action ripples through our community in more ways than we can know,” the studio wrote.
“As we move to repair the damage done, we grieve the fact that our community has a war within it.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the department at 651-291-1111.
