The 8-month-old boy believed to be abducted in south Minneapolis was reunited with his mother Wednesday.

Vicky Orozco reported her son, Carlos, missing just before noon.

The mother told police the infant was in a car seat in their apartment in the 2100 block of Portland Avenue South while she took a shower. When she emerged, the boy was gone.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert identifying the suspect as 30-year-old Isabel Diaz Castillo. Castillo befriended Orozco three months ago at a laundromat. Orozco's sister tells WCCO that Castillo became infatuated with the child.

Around 4 p.m., an anonymous tip lead officers to a residence on the 3700 block of 3rd Ave South, just a couple miles from where the boy went missing. The infant was found unharmed in the basement.

Police say the residence belongs to a relative of Castillo.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau says Castillo was spotted in her vehicle and attempted to flee. Officers eventually caught up with her and she was placed under arrest.

“I love happy endings and cases like this don’t usually have happy endings,” Harteau said.

The Star Tribune says it's not immediately known what happened to Castillo's 12-year-old son, Marco, who was seen going into the apartment just before the infant went missing and was also identified in the Amber Alert.

KSTP has a slide show of the events, including Castillo's arrest, and video of the reunion.
