Police investigating fatal shooting in Maplewood

The victim has not been named yet.

It was a deadly night for gun violence in the St. Paul area, with two fatal shootings in the city and one in neighboring Maplewood.

The latter incident happened at 8:44 p.m. near the intersection of Howard Street N and Larpenteur Ave East, according to an announcement from Maplewood Public Safety:

Officers from both Maplewood and St. Paul arrived to find a person lying on the road. The adult male victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is now underway, with Maplewood detectives working alongside the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the release says. No other details have been released yet.

News of the incident came a couple hours after St. Paul police announced they were investigating two separate shootings that happened overnight.

The first victim was shot in a parking ramp and brought to Regions Hospital with what would prove to be fatal gunshot wounds, while the the second was shot about three hours later during a robbery on Raspberry Island.

Neither man has been officially identified yet.

Their deaths mark the 19th and 20th homicides in St. Paul this year. By the same time in 2020, there had been 21 homicides.
