Police in Dakota County are investigating a suspicious death after a man was found dead in his home near Northfield.

The discovery was made in Greenvale Township at 4:45 p.m. Friday, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office says, with police being called to a report of a burglary in progress on the 31500 block of Foliage Avenue.

A friend of the victim had gone round to his house because they hadn't heard from him recently, but when they arrived, three people fled the home in the victim's car.

Police then arrived to find the homeowner dead.

Two of the suspects who fled the scene were later arrested, but the third was able to flee on foot. This sparked an alert to local residents, with police warning that the suspect – a 6-foot-tall white man weighing around 155 lbs. – is armed and dangerous.

The suspect had not been apprehended as of Friday evening.

It's not clear yet whether the suspects are being held only for burglarizing the house, or if they're also involved in the man's deaths.
