Police issue warning due to 4 'similar' robberies in Eden Prairie

Four "similar" robberies near walking paths and apartment buildings over the past six months have prompted the Eden Prairie Police Department to issue a warning.

In a Facebook post Monday, the department said the incidents all took place from 4-9 p.m., and in each case one or two suspects approached a female victim, stealing a purse or cellphone.

One time, a knife was "displayed" and a victim was injured, the department says.

The department is investigating whether the incidents are related. Here's where they occurred.

  • Dec. 8 – Parking lot at Briar Hill Townhomes (7000 block of Woodland Drive)
  • Oct. 25 – Walking path at Anderson Lakes Parkway and Neill Lake Road
  • Sept. 23 – Near Broadmoor Apartments (600 block of Prairie Center Drive)
  • June 12 – Walking path behind Fountain Place Apartments (12000 block of Primrose Lane)

The suspects have been described as black males, about 5'8" to 5'10" tall, and in their early 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to call 952-949-6200.

In the meantime, police are asking people to be cautious, including:

  • Being aware of your surroundings and, when possible, traveling in well-lit, high-traffic areas.
  • Not using your phone in public – it's less of a target for theft then, and means you're not distracted by it.
  • Carrying as few valuables as possible.
  • And, if you are robbed, not trying to chase or capture the suspect. It's "safest" to give up your items, take note of everything you can about the suspect and what happened, and call 911.
