Coon Rapids police arrested a 23-year-old man believed to be the robbery suspect shown in a jewelry store surveillance video last week.

The Pioneer Press reports Matthew Thomas Kennedy is the man who left a sales clerk at Kay Jewelers in Riverdale Village with a broken finger after yanking off a $16,000 engagement ring and running out of the store.

Several tips from the public directed authorities to Kennedy who was arrested Tuesday. Police say he was positively identified by the sales clerk and other witnesses.

KARE 11 reports Kennedy has an extensive number of run-ins with law enforcement including multiple arrests for theft-related crimes.

Kennedy has not yet been charged for the jewelry store robbery. He is currently in custody in the Anoka County Jail.
