Police in Minneapolis are hunting a man wanted over a sexual assault in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Minneapolis PD spokeswoman Darcy Horn said that the assault happened at 4 a.m. at a home on the 700 block of 4th Street Southeast in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood.

It was there that a man unknown to the victim broke into an apartment and sexually assaulted a woman inside.

The victim was able to get away eventually and call 911, before being taken to an area hospital for a sexual assault exam.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s with reddish facial hair.

"This case appears at this time in the investigation that this is a stranger situation, and that is rare," Horn said.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call Crime Stoppers of Minnesota at 1-800-222-8477 or via www.crimestoppersmn.org.
