A man has been jailed after ramming his car into a house, starting a garage on fire and initiating a standoff with police in Forest Lake.

The incident unfolded just before noon Tuesday, with officers from the Forest Lake Police Department responding to a call in the 20300 block of July Ave. N. for a man causing a disturbance.

Before police arrived, the man had caused significant damage to a home by driving his car into the home's basement, and then moved to a detached garage where he was barricading himself inside and pouring gasoline all over his body.

A short time later, as SWAT negotiators were trying to talk to the man, a fire broke out, with smoke seen coming from the garage as the man walked in and out of the burning structure.

SWAT took action, using "less lethal means" and was able to apprehend the man, giving the Forest Lake Fire Department a chance to put out the fire.

No injuries were reported and the man was booked in the Washington County Jail on multiple felony charges.
