Brainerd Police Department is on alert after receiving a report of an abduction attempt on Friday, Oct. 5.

According to the Brainerd Dispatch, police received the report at 4:09 p.m. Friday when 12-and-13-year-old girls said a man they didn't know attempted to abduct one of them.

It happened as they walked through an alley in the 500 block of 1st and 2nd Avenues in northeast Brainerd, which is near Evergreen Drive and a cemetery, the Brainerd Dispatch reports.

The girls informed police that the man was talking to them before trying to grab one of the girls. Fortunately, the kids were able to escape and run for safety.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8 white man in his 20s with brown hair and a slender build. He was driving a red, four-door car.

In a widely-shared post on Facebook, the mother of one of the girls said that her daughter was with her friend walking a dog when they were approached by a man in a car asking where Taco John's was.

She said the girls answered him and continued walking down the alley when he "came out of nowhere" and grabbed her daughter's friend.

The woman wrote that the girl screamed but was able to escape when her daughter helped fight off the man. The girls ran and the man gave chase before one of them was able to get to a neighbor's house and call 911.
