Police: Man killed, woman hurt in Minneapolis hit-and-run shooting
A motorist hit a woman in a south Minneapolis intersection early Monday and then did a U-turn, with someone inside the car fatally shooting a man on the sidewalk, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
At around 1:21 a.m. Monday, police found a woman south of the intersection at Franklin and Elliot avenues who was in critical condition, and a man who had been fatally shot on the sidewalk west of the intersection.
The woman was taken to the hospital, but the extent and cause of her injuries are not yet known.
"Preliminary investigation indicates that possibly two vehicles were westbound on Franklin Avenue when one of the vehicles struck the adult female east of Elliot Avenue. The vehicles continued west of Elliot and one did a U-turn in the middle of the road and shot the male victim. The suspect vehicle then fled south on Elliot and out of the area," police said.
The medical examiner will identify the victim in the coming days. His death marks the 27th homicide in Minneapolis this year, police said.
