Police: More than 100 leads after abduction attempt in Coon Rapids
Authorities have received more than 100 leads since alerting the public to an abduction attempt of a teenage girl in Coon Rapids last Friday.
Coon Rapids PD issued an update Monday, saying "we have a few promising leads." They're still encouraging people to contact them at 763-427-1212 if they can possibly identify the suspect in the sketch photo (above) or have any information that could help.
The attempted abduction happened Friday morning when a man pulled a 16-year-old girl into the woods, pepper sprayed her and "tried to attack her," Coon Rapids police said.
The girl was riding her skateboard on a walking path in the area of Coon Rapids Blvd. and Coon Rapids Blvd. Extension when the man attacked.
She was able to scream, kick and fight off the man, who ran way into the woods.
Police responded and set up a perimeter, searching with a K-9 and drones, but the suspect wasn't found.
The attacker is described as a white male, in his mid-30s, wearing a black Adidas sweatshirt with grey sleeves, dark sweat pants, black hair, lower profile beard, and a thin build.
"Be aware of your surroundings, lock your homes/vehicles, etc." says Coon Rapids PD. "Please also remind your children that if they are ever in this situation, to react as our survivor did: scream, fight back, and run away."
