Moorhead police are still looking for leads in the murder of 87-year-old Henry Volochenko a week after he was found dead.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.

Volochenko's body was discovered in the main floor of his home at 1209 Main Ave. by a friend last Wednesday night. Preliminary autopsy results concluded that Volochenko died from "trauma by homicidal violence," the Fargo Forum reports.

Police also said Volochenko's black cane was missing from the home and have asked nearby residents to keep an eye out for it.

A neighbor told Valley News Live that Volochenko, known as "Hank," was a kind and gentle man, who had frequent vistors and often opened his home to the homeless.

Leon Francis, a friend of the victim, recently installed new locks on Volochenko's doors after a number of break-ins, according to WDAY.

Anyone with information is being asked to call police at 1-218-299-5120.

The Star Tribune says a memorial service for Volochenko will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead with a burial at the church cemetery to follow.
