An investigation has been launched after a man died after being tased by police who responded to a domestic incident in St. Cloud Wednesday afternoon.

The situation unfolded around 3:15 p.m. in the 10 block of Wilson Ave. SE, with a woman calling 911 reporting that a man was unresponsive inside an apartment. During the call, the woman reported that the man became responsive and then became physically aggressive towards her, leading to her telling dispatch that she was being assaulted and choked.

Officers arrived at the apartment and breached the door, eventually using a Taser on the man while taking him into custody. During the arrest, the man became unresponsive, according to St. Cloud PD.

He was transported to St. Cloud Hospital where he died.

The man has not been identified and a cause of death is unknown at this point.

Officers involved in the incident have been placed on standard paid administrative leave while the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) leads an investigation.

The woman who called police sustained minor injuries from the assault.

More information is expected to be released by the BCA at a later date.
