Cloquet police are looking for the public's help after a vandal or vandals defaced more than 30 cars with paint over the weekend, Northland's NewsCenter reports.

The vandalism (some examples of which are shown in a police photo at right) was reportedly done with tan paint from a can, not spray paint.

The Cloquet Police Department says in a press release that "several items, including cars" had been vandalized with pain on Carlton Avenue in the 300 through 1000 blocks in Cloquet.

The northeastern Minnesota town has about 12,000 people, according the 2010 government census, and the population remained roughly the same in a 2012 City Data study.

Meanwhile, a rash of car break-ins have been reported in Phillips area of Minneapolis, WCCO reports.

Minneapolis police say about 25 car break-ins have been reported in past couple of weeks – 21 of them in the daylight hours. Most of the items stolen were left visible in the vehicles, according to police.

Authorities urge car owners to lock valuables in the trunks of their vehicles before they reach their destinations. Police also say owners should make sure car windows are rolled up all the way, and that they should never leave a running vehicle unattended.

Carp-carrying vandal strikes police cars in Orono

The vandal who struck the squad cars in the police station parking lot used spray paint. Oh, and another weapon: dead carp. Police say their video shows a man flinging four dead fish at the cars. Three bounced off, but the other 30-plus pounder crashed through a rear windshield. Air freshener, anyone?
