A man was fatally shot in St. Paul Saturday night, marking what's believed to be the city's first homicide this year.

Police responded to a report of shots fired near University Avenue West and Prior Avenue North, where they found an injured man around 11 p.m. Saturday, a news release says.

The victim, who hasn't been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still searching for a suspect, however they don't believe the public is at risk.

If anyone has information about the shooting, they are asked to call the St. Paul Police Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.

KSTP and the Pioneer Press are reporting this was the city's first homicide this year. There were 11 homicides in St. Paul in 2014, the latest year of data available, the city's crime report shows.

The investigation into the shooting, which happened near Metro Transit's Green Line, disrupted service on the route until 6 a.m. Sunday, the Pioneer Press says. Officials note the victim's death had nothing to do with the Green Line, the paper adds.
