A police squad car involved in a chase of a "red light violator" struck an SUV as it crossed an intersection in Waite Park.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m., when a Waite Park PD officer in a marked car saw a driver run a red light at 2nd Street South and Hwy. 23.

The officer gave chase and cleared the eastbound lane of the intersection, but as they crossed the westbound lane, the squad car "collided with a larger SUV heading westbound."

The impact of the collision caused extensive damage to the front of the squad car, while the SUV was rolled onto its roof.

Despite this, Waite Park PD claims there were no injuries to either the officer involved or the driver in the SUV.
