Police: St. Cloud man found blocks from crime scene with gunshot wound to the head

Police believe he was shot during an altercation in an alley.

A 25-year-old St. Cloud man suffered a gunshot wound to the head during an apparent struggle in St. Cloud Tuesday night.

According to St. Cloud Police Department, officers responded to a report of a gunshot in an alley at 9:24 p.m. near the 400 block of Wilson Ave. NE and 5th Ave., which is just east of the Mississippi River and Wilson Park.

Officers found a handgun at the scene and packages of a controlled substance, in addition to seeing signs of a struggle. Police set up a perimeter and launched a search of the area with the help of a drone and a K-9 unit, and a short time later they found a 25-year-old man who had been shot in the head in addition to suffering injuries consistent with a physical altercation.
