Police: Teens are robbing young kids in Brooklyn Center

Police issued a crime alert for this "robbery trend."

Three kids were robbed and one was assaulted in a series of robberies in Brooklyn Center this week. 

The Brooklyn Center Police Department said Wednesday there have been three robberies — one involving a handgun — and one assault over just two nights (Monday, June 28, and Tuesday, June 29). 

The incidents are believed to be related, with police noting the suspect descriptions are consistent, and the victims are similar in all four incidents. Police say the suspects are described as African-American males in their early to mid-teens, with each incident involving two or three suspects. 

Here are the details police have released about each incident: 

— The first robbery happened at 8 p.m. on June 28. An 8-year-old victim was robbed at Firehouse Park (6536 Bryant Ave. N). The suspects were two African-American boys in their early teens; one was wearing a ski mask. 

— The second robbery happened at 3:50 p.m. on June 29. A 14-year-old victim was robbed at Firehouse Park. The suspects were two African-American boys in their teens. 

— The third robbery happened at 5:30 p.m. on June 29. A 12-year-old victim was robbed on the 600 block of 70th Ave. N. The suspects were three African-American boys in their early to mid-teens. One of the suspects displayed a handgun during the robbery. 

— The assault happened at 7:30 p.m. on June 29. A 12-year-old victim was assaulted on the 7200 block of W River Road. The suspects asked the victim for his cell phone, and when he said he didn't have one, one of the suspects slapped him and fled in a vehicle. The suspect is described as an African-American boy in his early teens. The victim suffered minor injuries. 

The Brooklyn Center Police Department also issued a crime alert to residents regarding the recent "robbery trend."
