Police in New Brighton are trying to identify the owner of a vehicle they have linked to a suspicious fire early Saturday morning.

The fire on the 1700 block of 19th Avenue NW was called in by a newspaper delivery worker, who saw it at 5:25 a.m., prompting a response from police and firefighters from New Brighton, and firefighters from Lake Johanna.

The fire had taken hold of the home's garage, with fire crews evacuating the residents inside, and the blaze was dealt with a short time after.

Further investigation led authorities to a video showing a small passenger vehicle driving up to the home, an "unknown person" approaching the outside of the garage, "and fire was then observed on the video," according to the New Brighton Department of Public Safety.

As well as the garage being set on fire, the owners say their yard sign appears to have been stolen. This is the sign:

New Brighton police are seeking help from the public identifying the vehicle, asking neighbors with cameras in the area or along Long Lake Road to I-694 to review their footage between 5-5:45 A.M. Saturday.
