A woman has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing her partner to death during an argument at their home in Faribault on Friday morning.

The assault was reported at 9:15 a.m., with responders arriving to find 52-year-old Michael Bongers with a stab wound in his chest.

A woman at the scene told police they'd got into an argument and admitted stabbing him, Faribault Police said.

He was taken to the Allina District One Hospital for treatment, but died from his injuries.

The woman was taken from the scene and provided a statement to the police. The couple apparently "have a history of domestic violence incidents and were known to police," Faribault PD said.

Police say that drug use may also have been a factor in the stabbing. The woman is being held on manslaughter charges, pending further charges by the county attorney's office.
