Post office to close indefinitely in central Minnesota over building safety concerns
A central Minnesota town has seen its local post office closed "indefinitely" because of safety concerns with its building.
Services in Kerkhoven, a town of just over 700 people, have been suspended temporarily due to problems with the facility at 903 Atlantic Avenue.
It will mean residents have to go around 3 miles to nearby Murdock to access postal services.
Both retail and post box services will be shifted to Murdock. The West Central Tribune reports that a notice on the door of the Kerkhoven post office says this will continue till concerns about the safety of the building have been addressed.
The Kerkhoven post office will be "indefinitely" closed, the notice said.
"There is a structural safety concern with the building," a USPS spokeswoman told Bring Me The News.
Kerkhoven is located along Hwy. 12 in Swift County, northwest of Willmar in central Minnesota.
