Early morning power outages hit downtown St. Paul

More than 6,000 properties were without power at one point.

Xcel Energy says that as of 8:49 a.m., all power was restored to affected customers in St. Paul.

Power outages are affecting business and residents across downtown St. Paul on Tuesday morning.

Xcel Energy's outage map showed more than 6,400 customers were impacted as of 8 a.m. 

The utility told Bring Me The News the outages were the result of an issue with one of its sub-stations that serves part of St. Paul.

It had already restored power to a number of customers, and told us at 7:45 a.m. that the remaining outages should be fixed within an hour.

Posts on social media show that the outages have been going on for a least an hour, and affected not just residents, but a number of businesses downtown too.

Valleyfair is returning to normal after the Shakopee amusement park lost power Tuesday afternoon, KARE 11 reports. Xcel Energy officials say it took crews about 90-minutes to restore power after an equipment failure.
