President Barack Obama will be in Minnesota in June to headline a Democratic fundraiser to generate money for congressional candidates in what's expected to be a tough midterm election.

The Star Tribune reports Obama will headline a party at the home of Sylvia and Samuel Kaplan, longtime Democratic fundraisers and donors. MPR News quotes the Sunlight Foundation, which has data showing that the Minneapolis couple has contributed $400,000 to the Democratic Party and its candidates. Sam Kaplan was Obama's ambassador to Morocco from 2009 to 2013. Last year they hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Al Franken that featured actor Jon Hamm of "Mad Men."

MPR News obtained an invitation to the June 26 event. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Steve Israel, chair of them Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will also attend, along with Minnesota's Democratic congressional delegation.

Obama DCCC invite

The fundraiser asks for $32,400 per couple for a VIP reception, dinner and a photo opportunity and to be part of the “Speaker’s Cabinet.” For $20,000 per couple -- or $10,000 per person -- participants can have dinner and a photo opp.

Obama visited Minnesota in February when he was in St. Paul promoting spending for infrastructure projects. He’s regularly visited the state over the years for fundraising events in the Twin Cities.

The White House did not confirm whether Obama will be doing any public events during the visit. No word if he has reserved a table at Punch Pizza, which he has twice publicly praised for its policy of paying workers above the minimum wage.
