President Trump is planning a Minnesota visit before the mid-terms

Minnesota will be a battleground this November.

President Donald Trump intends on making a stop in Minnesota ahead of this year's mid-term elections.

Trump said this during a Republican National Convention dinner on Thursday, according to Huffington Post White House correspondent S.V. Date on Twitter.

Unless he turns up at the Super Bowl on Sunday (organizers told the Star Tribune they've heard nothing to that effect), it would be the first visit Trump has made to Minnesota since he became president.

The last time he was here, he held a rally as MSP Airport just a few days before the 2016 presidential election, speaking before thousands of supporters in an aircraft hangar.

– Trump: We're going to win Minnesota, I love Minnesota

What does this mean?

Republicans are keen for the fight in Minnesota to get maximum exposure given that not one but two Senate seats are up for grabs – both held by Democrats.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar is up for re-election and Sen. Tina Smith will be seeking to win the right to see out the remaining two years of Al Franken's tenure following his resignation last month.

With the Republican majority in the Senate a precarious 2 seats, at 51-49, expect the GOP to spare no expense fighting to hold onto its advantage.

And with some predicting the customary backlash against a sitting president (seen in previous years with GOP pickups during the Obama reign), a visit from the president would definitely generate headlines for 2 Minnesota Republican candidates trying to overturn a potential "blue wave."

The Washington Times reported in December that Republicans see Minnesota as a key battleground this year.

Minnesota GOP Chair Jennifer Carnahan told the newspaper voters are disappointed with the DFL in Minnesota, giving Republicans the chance to pick up at least one seat.
